Hollywood mans man Brad Pitt famous for his roles in hits like “A River Runs Though It” (my favorite environmentally friendly movie of all time) and of course the “Ocean’s” trilogy is attempting to use that spotlight trained on him from the cameras of a million paparazzi to bring the effects of Hurricane Katrina back into focus. Next Wednesday August 29th marks the two year anniversary of America’s deadliest storm and help is still needed to return the once majestic city of New Orleans back to what it was.
With wife (or partner as they prefer to call it) Angelina Joliet in tow, Brad took a tour of what remains of the French Quarter and Lower Ninth Ward. Though Pitt praised the efforts of those working to rebuild he did direct some harsh criticism to the Bush administration in saying “it’s hard to find an overall victory when you see how slowly everything is still moving. And Katrina was a man-made disaster. This house is a man-made solution.”
Obviously Brad feels that Katrina was the monster it was due to Global Warming and that huge leaps must be made in order to make the people in southern Louisiana feel more confident about the area they once lived in.
While touring the city, Pitt paid a visit to a home sponsored by Global Green USA which is being built “green’ and features over 28 solar panels along the roof. Pitt is a major backer of Global Green which is currently planning a “green” community for residents to return too. The community would include an 18 unit low-income apartment complex with the hope that residents that escape the city due to Katrina will want to return and help rebuild. Adding Pitt “We knew we couldn’t bring back the families and friends that were lost, bring back the heirlooms, the pictures. But maybe, in the process of rebuilding, we could build something smarter, and create a better way of life for those people who live here.”
