Spiders are with us season-round, but it seems they are at their peak in the early spring and fall. Well, technically, it’s still winter, but early spring is just around the corner, and before you put your foot into a shoe you haven’t worn in a while, be sure you shake it so any brown recluse spiders are gone before your skin goes in.

What’s the big deal about a brown recluse spider, you might ask. They’re small and very plain; what harm could a brown recluse spider do, that should make you so keen to remove them from your home completely, and check all shoes and gloves before putting a foot or hand in them?

For one thing, ANY spider bite is painful and can cause all kinds of problems, especially if the victim turns out to have an allergy to spider-spit.

But the bite of that dusty brown ordinary-looking little brown recluse is extra-harsh. These little spiders are VENOMOUS. Their bites aren’t just painful and itchy; they can kill ya. And before you die, your skin is pretty much eaten away, slowly and painfully. Like this:

Need a great gift for a Boy/Girl Scout? How about a tent mat that repels insects and animals? I used to camp out a lot when I was in Scouts, and I loved it, all but the bugs. I would wake up in the morning covered with itchy mosquito bites, and that was bad enough, but the occasional spider bites and “mystery bites” were often painful. I hated those bugs.
