All about the Repell-em garbage bags and tablecloths

I’m definitely  chip guy. Corn chips, tortilla chips, Doritos, pretzels. With ridges, without ridges. Covered in cheese, salsa, onion dip, chili, sour cream, guacamole, chicken, beef, and pork. I just want a chip. You’ve waited all week for the big game, but before they take the field of the first kickoff the game can’t start till the bowl of chips are firmly planted on the coffee table in front of you. Better yet for the bowl, just bring me a bag.

Well chip manufacturers care about the environment just like you and me and to prove it Frito-Lay has come up with a plan they are calling Net Zero. No this has nothing to do with quicker Internet access to their website. Net Zero is all about taking the chip giant’s Casa Grande plant in Arizona off the power grid. The Plant which processes over 500,000 pounds of potatoes a day, is about to attempt to be ran entirely on recycled water and alternate/renewable fuels. According to their chairman Indra Nooyi "We don’t know what the complete payoff for net zero is going to be. If this works even to 50 or 60 percent of its potential, that is fantastic, and it’s so much better than what we already have"

The changes which are scheduled to be completed by 2010 include installing high tech filters to recycle water, turning leftover sludge accumulated from cleaning the potatoes into methane gas, and 50 acres of solar cells. If all goes according to plan, Frito-Lay hopes to cut as much as 75% of their greenhouse gas emissions. Says the vice president of Frito Lay "This might not make a hell of a lot of sense initially, but long term this is where we need to go"

Ladies and gentlemen. That’s one small step for chip lovers and one giant step towards a cleaner environment!!!
