All about the Repell-em garbage bags and tablecloths

Everyday new green themed products are being brought to the world’s attention in hopes of changing the tide of global warming along with how we go about our daily activities. This is one of the fantastic things about living in 2007! All across the globe people everywhere are thinking, living, and acting in ways that may someday make us a society in which everyone cares about the planet and work together to restore it. With all of these new inventions coming out I thought today it would be a cool idea to briefly highlight just a few that someday might become as common as the solar toaster (What? That hasn’t caught on yet?)

  • Mushroom Insulation- Eden Bayer and Gavin McIntyre are just a couple of fungi’s who happen to love mushrooms. Eben even grew up on a mushroom farm in Vermont. Together the duo have come up with an all natural way to insulate homes by using a favorite pizza topping. Greensulate is an organic insulator that is composed of water, flour, potting soil, and oyster mushrooms. The guys say that it’s been tested by the National Institute of Standards and Tech and the results were Greensulate was shown to be just as good as anything on the market. Look for it in a hardware store sometime next year.
  • Solar Powered Trash- I hate taking out the trash!! Not so much so at the beginning of the week when the can is empty, but that day right before pick-up when it’s overflowing. It’s nasty, smelly, and now I gotta pull it to the curb. Hopefully thanks to Jim Poss’s Solar Trash Can at least the ick factor will be eliminated. Jim has come up with a way to harness the power of the sun to power a garbage can that contains a mini-compactor. I know. I know. How does compact trash save the environment? Simple. Smaller amounts equal more room in the can equal less trips the city has to make to come get it. That means less gas used and more money for other issues!!
  • The Air Car-Unfortunately this has nothing to do with a car that can fly. Now that I’m past that moment of disappointment I can say that Toyota has a really cool thing going for it with the creation of an air fuel car. The car is powered using 50gallon tanks of compressed air, can be refilled in a matter of minutes, and goes an amazing 70mph. At the moment there are some safety concerns that are being looked at, but still imagine a life with gas would do to help the planet. For more check out this cool video:
