Spring not only brings the joy of fresh flowers and nights on the patio grilling out with friends, but with it also comes the dreaded Spring Cleaning. If you are like us it usually lasts a couple of weekends and is filled with the jobs you just hate having to do, but must be done in order to keep your home clean and healthy. Our list usually looks something like this:
- Pressure wash the driveway, front and back porches, and the outside of the house
- Moving all the furniture and vacuuming under everything
- Organize the garage and attic
- Go through all the closets and decide what it yardsale and what needs to be put up till next fall
- Check the fire extinguisher
- Change the smoke detector batteries
- Wash all the curtains
- Clean out the flower beds and replace what died due to freezing
The list goes on and on until it reaches the horizon. It feels like a never ending task and that’s probably why we only do this deep cleaning twice a year. Since this is such a big task I though now would be the best time to share some tips on how to make Spring Cleaning easier and hopefully faster.
- Make a list- The week before start going over everything you would like to see get done and writing the task down on one of those pads that stick to the refrigerator
- Ask for help- Don’t try to go it alone. You’ll never get it all done and your body is bound to take a beating. Make sure everyone in your family is aware of what’s going to happen and what role they will play in helping to get it all done.

- Use the power of the wheel- Whether it’s a wagon, a lawn buddy, a wheel barrow, if it has wheels and it can help you move stuff grab it. Don’t put yourself in a position where everything has to be carried from place to place. It’s bad for your back and time consuming
- Fill up your arsenal- Make sure you have plenty of window cleaner, oven cleaner, floor cleaner, air freshener, soap, sponges. Make a cleaning supply check list. Don’t waste the weekend going back and forth getting supplies from the store.
- Make sure you are doing the big projects- The weekend is for the big jobs around the house. Not washing dishes or laundry. You can do that any weekend. Touch up the paint, flush the water heater, clean the light fixtures, and spray out the gutters.
Nobody likes to do any of these things, but it’s simply just part of having a beautiful home. With a little help and some planning, it should be over and done with in no time.
