This just in hot off the wire, EW is reporting that the next villain determined to ruin Jack’s day on 24 will be…GLOBAL WARMING!! The entertainment magazine posts “When appropriate,” according to the Fox website, season 7 will incorporate “the issue of global warming and the importance of carbon emission reduction into storylines.” Though I’m a huge fan of the show I never paid much attention to Jack’s green habits or for that matter the lack there of. Apparently I’ve been too consumed by people getting tortured with drills and showing up to work hours later to notice Bauer’s need to turn the lights out whenever leaving CTU.
The incorporation of green elements will be minor compared to what’s going to take place behind the cameras. Scripts will be sent by email, producers will be driving hybrids, and Kiefer Sutherland has even done a Public Service Announcement. One spokesman even told the Washington Post ”We are publicizing ’24’s’ commitment to climate change for two reasons and two reasons only: to inspire the public to take global warming seriously and hopefully to motivate other studios to make changes to their production practices as well”.
Who knows, Jack Bauer may just help the planet out before its days are numbered.
