Okay, blog contest fans, this is a BIG ONE!
The new EcoSmartPlastics Blog Contest begins TODAY, and will run until Valentine’s Day 2009. Yes, that’s a long time, but we want as many people as possible to have time to enter! That’s also a long time to wait and see if you won something, but I think the possibility of $250.00 in merchandise is worth the wait, don’t you?
That’s what I said: $250.00 in merchandise. That’s a lot of merchandise!!!!
EcoSmartPlastics wants to know why you would love to buy -and use every day - the only truly 100% biodegradeable plastics products on the planet: the unscented Eco-smartbags and the scented pest-repelling Repellem trash bags. We want to know how you feel about “being green,” and how you believe EcoSmartPlastics products can help you do that. We want to know your opinion of the clean, green safety that our products can help you achieve in your home. We want to know how you feel about you and your children living healthier and safer lives in a home that uses EcoSmartPlastics.
That being said, here’s how to enter the new EcoSmartPlastics Blog Contest:
In the comments ON THIS POST, please tell us, in approximately 250 words, why and how you would use EcoSmartPlastics products to help achieve a cleaner, greener, safer home.
The contest ends on Valentine’s Day 2009, the entries will be compiled and judged, and the winners <——PLURAL! will be announced shortly thereafter.
“Plural” means “more than one,” and there will, in fact, be several winners. The three main prizes are: 1st: $250.00 in EcoSmartPlastics merchandise; 2nd: $100.00 in EcoSmartPlastics merchandise, and 3rd: $50.00 in EcoSmartPlastics merchandise.
If you are interested in posting, on your own blog, about our contest, please email me (Jane@onebyonemedia.com) and I will tell you what we’ll give you for doing that. It’s worth doing, that’s for sure!) You can still enter, even if you help us get the word out!
And now, LET THE EcoSmartPlastics BLOG CONTEST BEGIN!

I love the concept of biodegradable plastic bags. We compost so I imagine it would be handy to use the bags to tote our recyclables out and then ditch the bags. We haven’t figured out a great way to deal with our recycling yet since our city doesn’t do curbside pick up so it’s kind of piling up next to our trash cans and the Repell-em bags would definitely be handy for that.

We are constantly striving for a greener home. But getting rid of plastics has been very hard, especially when it comes to trash bags. It is so much easier if the trash is contained in a bag so the trash cans don’t get so icky and full of germs! Because we try so hard to create as little trash as possible, sometimes our trash is horribly stinky by the time it’s full and ready to take out. In fact, we only take our big trash can out to the street every 3 weeks or so, rather than every week. Biodegradable trash bags seem to be the perfect solution! It would put my mind at ease and make life simpler for myself and my family. It would also be a great addition to our picnics where we have started using compostable picnicware!

A lifetime of non-Green habits is quickly being altered in our home. Recycling was always done, but now we won’t buy disposable anything …. except garbage bags. Now I see there is an alternative!
I cringe when I see the terrible waste and poor habits of others, and I do everything I can to make my children eco-aware. Great contest. With four kids, I’d certainly be able to use these products. A big impact I feel I have made is that my extended family took my advice and everyone is on board when it comes to family parties and get-togethers. No one uses dispoable plates and cutlery. I’m happy I inspired them to think Green.

even though it is a bit more money, the new plastics are well worth it, we need to get this ingrained in our minds and just do it.

We live in a condo unit that has a lot of people with different lifestyles. Our neighbor grows plants on her balcony during summer, but that often causes a lot of insects. When we put our garbage out, they swarm towards it. Especially in the heat of summer. These would be great to prevent that.
Another use that I thought of, which would be an interesting try….on our balcony we often get a family of birds building a nest on our fire sprinkler head. We find ourselves constantly knocking it off as soon as it is in progress, and want to keep them away, but don’t want to harm the birds with chemicals. I wonder if we taped some of these bags on the wall next to the sprinkler head, if it would keep the birds away safely?

The question shouldn’t be why we would go green and use eco friendly prouducts, it should be why not go green. Going green is better for the environment which makes it better for humans. We only have one earth and if we botch it up we are left with nothing!
January 13th, 2009 at 2:16 pm
I recycle I compost and I try to buy sustainable products, if I win th EcoSmartPlastics products, they themselves help achieve a cleaner, greener, safer home.
January 16th, 2009 at 8:23 pm
We are a family of 8. If we did not make stride in the area of green living, we would leave a huge footprint on this earth. We recycle, we compost, we have a vegetable garden, even here in Arizona it is possible. We use washing machine water to water the garden, we have had to make sure we use eco friendly detergent. Kids bath water is used for indoor plants. We buy nothing that comes in hard plastic wrappings. We limit our air conditioning to one room during the day and bedrooms at night. We are always looking to do more.

I am looking to buy any older home and make it more green
January 25th, 2009 at 4:36 pm
we try to recycle as much as possible in our house and try hard not to bring home plastic bags from the grocery store. our one problems is our two dogs and the bags we must use to clean up after them on their walks. it would be wonderful to have degradable bags to use instead of regular plastic bags.

Biodegradable bags that keep animals & bugs, and products that keep the bugs from the garden? Count me in!
January 31st, 2009 at 11:43 am
Traditional plastics are pretty scary. For one, they will be on this planet, in one way or another, forever. That’s right, forever! Petroleum-based plastic doesn’t really biodegrade…it just keeps breaking down into smaller pieces. These teeny pieces end up getting eating by marine life, and then eventually by us. Disgusting! So, not shockingly, as a parent, I am concerned about the planet I am leaving my children. Plastic is used in almost everything! We are, basically, slowly poisoning our planet. And for what? So we have a bag to throw garbage in that we use for five minutes? Biodegradable bags, and I mean real biodegradable bags likes these EcoSmartPlastics bag, are an excellent alternative. They hold the garbage, and even repel bugs while doing it, without slowly killing the planet. Which means, a little more chance that our kids won’t inherit a world of chemical soup.

Since my daughter read “The Lorax”, she has been concerned with pollution, ecosystems, the environment and what sort of footprint we’re leaving.
She’s far more aware than *I* ever was, and she is responsible for my family’s conversion to “going green”. I love that many of my favorite brands are now more enviro-friendly! And now biodegradable trashbags? How awesome is that? I can’t imagine why anyone would NOT use these - it’s such a small, easy thing to do that can make such a HUGE impact. My family creates a lot of garbage even with recycling, and I appreciate EcoSmartPlastics for giving us the opportunity to be able to do our part in keepin’ it green.

Now that I’m retired I have much more time to go green. It’s amazing what you can do if you have time to really think about it and form a plan. I’m on a mission this year to simplify and recycle. EcoSmart Plasics is really something I’m interested in. Thanks for all the info.
January 31st, 2009 at 5:40 pm
I would love to try these out! We are definitely reducing our trash output and this is something I’d love to use.
January 31st, 2009 at 6:25 pm
Going green takes alot of education, and really it can be expensive. We re really trying and this would help with the guiding us towards going green, we are trying to simplify what we use and reduce our waste. Ecosmart would help us with our goal of not leaving so much of a footprint.
January 31st, 2009 at 10:00 pm
I wasn’t aware there was such a thing as biodegradeable plastic bags. What a great idea. We try and recycle anything we can. Composting what is compostable to reduce what we throw away. With biodegradeable bags it would make it even easier to gather the food scraps and compost items into neat little packages.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:14 am
I would love to use a biodegradable bag. I try to keep all my trash separated and then go and use a plastic bag, makes no sense. I have switched my light bulbs and try to use green cleaners. I repurpose as much as I can.
February 1st, 2009 at 2:56 am
I have already posted about going green.
But I had to respond to same to the comments on plastic bags etc.
It is a garbage can dump the garbage in it. Compost most of the wet stuff, recycle the cans, paper and glass. Whats left - meat , non recyclable styroform some plastics. Hey just put them in the garbage can, why are you using a bag at all.

I come from the generation that grew up watching Captain Planet and wearing “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle!” buttons. The pine tree I planted on Arbor Day when I was 8 years old stands tall and proud in my parents front yard 19 years later. After growing up respecting nature and learning how our actions will have a huge impact on our children’s future, I try my hardest to be a conscientious consumer and make my family’s footprint smaller. We walked the aisles at Sam’s club tonight and I thought about the giant stacks of styrofoam containers and imagined them wasting away in a landfill. If everyone were able to use products like EcoSmartPlastics, we would take a huge leap towards lessening our impact on our earth and more importantly, our children’s earth! I hadn’t heard about this company until just before I began this comment, and I plan on purchasing their products whether or not I win!

As my home ages, the results of many chemicals used in cleaners set of allergies and forced the windows to be kept open to vent the house. I finally realized that my own home needed to be environment friendly as well as safe. Being green makes me safer and has made me recycle my own attitudes about things.
February 10th, 2009 at 4:26 pm
We are a very green family. The use of plastics really concerns me. I would enjoy using these products.
February 12th, 2009 at 4:17 pm
It is terific being able to sit and have a picnic without ants trying to compete with you.We are suppose to be getting rid of plastic bags and with your repel bags this would make it very easy and clean and green. if only it was easier to pay for them being in New Zealand with the exchange and everything else they add on.it makes it rather expensive.
February 13th, 2009 at 5:53 am
It’s well worth the extra money and this will all be required in the upcoming years anyway so I might as well get used to it now.
February 13th, 2009 at 7:10 am
We are a family getting greener every day. The use of any petroleum products truly concern us. I want to try your products.

When my children were little I used cloth diapers. I couldn’t stand the thought of leaving behind a mountain of disposable diapers long after they were grown. These bags would have been a great help then. As they got older I sent their lunches to school in reusable tupperware. Today my children are almost grown and we continue our green ways. They all walk or bike to school (college too). Buying and using biodegradeable plastic bags would be another way we can lessen our impact on the earth.

I love that the trash bags are 100% biodegradable! The product that is of most interest to me are the doggy poop bags!!! Right know I am using the grocery store plastic bags for Pluto’s doodies, and I always wonder just how long they are sitting out there in a land fill. Thank you so much!
February 14th, 2009 at 1:24 am
Our household has been green for years. I like that their bags are biodegradable. The ecosmartplastics is another chance to further educate the kids about the importance of recycling!
February 14th, 2009 at 2:55 am
Wow these trashbags keep a lot of animals and bugs away how neat.
I would have to get some of those trashbags because I had a racoon that got into my chimney and had babys in there. I had to call someone to come out and remove the whole family and take them to a safe place mean while it cost me about 600.00. They were so cute but I just could not see letting them live in the chimney.
The racoons get into my trash a lot I think they think it is a buffet. Partly my fault I am sure I hate food to go to waste so a lot of the time I through it out the back door knowing it will make some little critter happy. But that is different then tearing my trash out and leaving wrappers in my yard.
What about termites is there anything out there to get rid of termites they are try’n to eat my garage.

I’m so grateful when a creative soul comes up with something like EcoSmartPlastics! I have embraced the Green Movement for over ten years and have experienced a lot of concern about our future …at first, I was doing “my little part”. Now, I am educating every friend and stranger about PCB’s and carcinogens. Thanks for this great contest!
February 14th, 2009 at 8:51 pm
I love having biodegradable plastic bags as an option. Since my city instituted curbside recycling, I’ve tried to be extra-vigilant about recycling what I can, but I’ve also become more aware of the products that can’t be recycled. In my house, this is mainly clingfilm and plastic bags. It’s almost impossible to buy any fruits, vegetables, meat, or other unprepared food that doesn’t come in plastic. I wonder if I could bring some of the dog cleanup sized bags to the grocery store and use them for my produce purchases instead of the plastic bags the store provides?

I like to believe that I am SMART …. but we cannot be smart by just saying … “look I am smart” … we have to work on becoming smart and to do that …. we have to do smart things like looking for new smart products coming onto the market. Difficult chore? No not on all … not for a smart person like me because I found, right here EcoSmartPlastics.
“Neighbour” I heard myself yelling today …
“Have you heard of EcoSmartPlastics ?”
And there I saw .. the look in my neighbours eye .. the look that says …
“Hey ! Neighbour” … looking at me “You are smart because you are talking about Eco (smart stuff) …. Eco Plastics … Smart Plastics”
And with a sheepish grin . …my neighbour said to me :
“EcoSmart ? Tell me more” and so I share my EcoSmart knowledge with my neighbour … and I see the look on my neighbours face …. the gosh she is smart because she uses eco friendly products in her home and that look makes me blush … a friendly, smart blush of the smart.
And, as human nature goes … my neighbour wants to be as smart as me and this is when my neighbour say …. teach me, please … to be EcoSmart, ecoSmart as you and my oh my what a tough one this is to decide. Do I want my neighbor to be smart .. as EcoSmart as me ? Thinking …
“Ma … Mammmmmie” I hear a little voice yeling through my smart thoughts and in flash my 5 year old .. thinking he is just as smart as me because he has an ecoSmart cut into a smart coat of sorts … place off for his head, place for hands ….
“Look Ma … Mammiiiiiiieee… clever me has a new raincoat”
The smile on my proud sons face brings a bigger smile to my face … because right there and then I realise … its smart to want to look after this world for my son and by using EcoSmart plastic bags I dont have to want to believe I am smart .. I am smart .. really smart.
