Very seldom do I venture into the realm of the celebrity on this site. Namely because Repellem blog is more about larger issues such as global warming, recycling, and of course the newest in green ideas. Occasionally I’ll step out and mention a big name if he/she is doing something to change the way we abuse this planet, but most of the time I try and stay away from bizzaro land aka Hollywood. That being said, this next story is just so messed up that I’m left with no choice but to blog about it.

Fresh off the presses of the Daily Telegraph comes word that Madonna and husband Guy Ritchie have dyed the herd of sheep living on their Wiltshire, England estate blue, pink, yellow, and green. Now I understand Madonna’s got to do something to keep her name in the spotlight now that her history of controversial antics has spawned a generation of Lindsey Lohans, Paris Hiltons, Britney Spears…honestly the list of Madonna clones is so long it’s hard to keep up with….but why mess with sheep? I mean sure she needed something shocking to draw attention to her chapter of the Vogue Magazine book entitled “Vogue Living:Houses, Gardens, People”, but at this point the most shocking thing she could do would be to fall into obscurity. Isn’t it bad enough that they are scared to death every time the razor gets cranked up in prep for their latest hair cut, but now the sheep have got to worry about waking up purple?

Of course Madonna insists that the dye used on the sheep is perfectly healthy. To this a spokesperson from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals dared to ask the obvious question “Why is it necessary and what are they trying to prove?” adding “ It is an irresponsible publicity stunt. It sends out the wrong message about how to use animals” Why? Because she’s Madonna that’s why.
