On the heals of the semi-successful Live Earth concerts for climate change, NBC Universal is going green for a full week in November. Beginning November 4th “The Office”, “My Name Is Earl”, “30 Rock”, “Heroes”,” and “Deal or No Deal” will all incorporate green themes into their broadcasts. NBC Green Council Chairman Lauren Zalaznick was quoted in a press release “This commitment to a week of programming is an incredible opportunity for NBCU to use the collective power of its platforms – broadcast, cable, and film – and consumer expertise and reach to further the message of environmental awareness and change. For the first time ever, the massive resources of the entire NBC Universal family will stand together behind a single pro-social cause. This far-reaching initiative represents the first step in our commitment to help raise environmental awareness and effect change both internally and externally” Man I can’t wait to see what type of new recycling techniques Earl comes up with!!! Maybe the gang from “Heroes” will use their powers to open up the minds of those blind to the effects of Global Warming!!
NBC Sports will also be getting in on the action with Sunday Night’s game between the Cowboys/Eagles and the following Saturday’s Air Force/Notre Dame featuring commercials dedicating to educating the public on environmental issues. Not to be left out Bravo/CNBC will be airing green programming all week featuring tips on green cooking, design, techniques, fashion, and the overall green lifestyle.
The SciFi Channel will have green centered episodes of their newest drama “Flash Gordon” and “end of the world” style movie night. Think “Day After Tomorrow” or “Twister”. Sundance will have a Robert Redford documentary, programming geared towards the kiddies, and the premiere of “Radiant City” by Gary Burns.
Plus “Dateline”, “Today”, and “The Nightly News” will take a break from covering the news in order and focus on saving the planet.
This looks to be an awesome week to get the word out on how “going green” means living clean. Maybe after it’s all over with millions more across the country will understand why we have to take care of our planet starting today so that our children will have a tomorrow.
