When I bag up the trash, I can’t lean it against the kitchen door until morning because I have three cats who think a full trash bag is a buffet meal, and they don’t rest until they’ve clawed through the plastic and spread the garbage all over the kitchen.

I’m not the best housekeeper in the world but I draw the line at wading through eggshells and chicken skin and empty 2-liter pop bottles on Thursday mornings.

I really don’t like to have full trash bags in my kitchen anyway, but the garbage truck comes on Thursday mornings and if I don’t have everything ready, it will drive away without my trash and I’ve got double to store for another week.

If I could set the bags out on the deck, it would make my life a lot, well, more wholesome, but I can’t do that because I live out in the country and anything out on the deck is a buffet meal for the woodland creatures that look so cute on greeting cards and Discovery specials but which are actually FENG SHUI DESTROYERS for my deck, if there’s a trash bag out there.
