All about the Repell-em garbage bags and tablecloths

There’s a couple of interesting stories out there today that both relate to the wildlife so I figured I’d briefly cover them both. One has to do with endangered animals and the other involves the wiping out of all life.

First off I want to talk about the recent report from the World Conservation Union. According to their research over 16,300 species are on the verge of extinction and the current thought is that this is a “low estimate”. Of course Global Warming is being blamed, but there are other factors. Viruses such as Ebola, commercial hunting, new dams that are causing changes in river flows, pollution, over fishing are just a few the other reasons why the list continues to grow. Unfortunately the answer to the problem is something that may never happen…the entire world working together to save the environment. I hate to be a cynic, but don’t hold your breath for that one

Next, nuclear weapons are once again taking center stage as Russia says it has developed a non-nuclear nuclear bomb. How exactly does a non-nuclear bomb work? By using compressed air and extreme heat the bomb creates a vacuum that evaporates all living matter in its path without leaving behind all that messy radiation. What this means in basic terms is that if they wanted too Russia could set off the bomb and immediately descend on the target without having to wait for the nuclear winter to end. This is an extremely troubling invention that though may “save the planet” does not bode well for its inhabitants.
