All across America today people woke up to the devastating images and sounds coming from their televisions, radios, and computers. If the current round of wildfires in Southern California hadn’t made their way into the average Joe’s line of sight yet, he has definitely turned his attention towards them now.
With over 1 million people forced to seek shelter and abandon their homes and the estimates for the eventually recovery already reaching $1 Billion, it’s hard to even consider focusing on the World Series which starts tonight. Images of flaming tornadoes whipping across the landscape, families standing around hopelessly watching everything they have ever known disintegrate….it’s times like these when we all prove what we are…Americans. We are a country that ultimately stands up and helps one another overcome the chaos that rains down. Yes we bicker and wage insignificant wars with one another over things that seem meek and small in times such as these, but when it really counts we the people of these United States band together for the greater good.
There is hope. Hope from those all over the world sending prayers. Hope from states who are sending their firefighters to the front lines in an attempt to squelch the flames. Hope from companies and individuals everywhere who are at this moment are sending such valuable resources as food, water, clothing, and of course money to the families that now are left with virtually nothing. Hope that for those standing on their lawns, water hose in hand, desperately fighting the coming flames, hope that they win their battle against Mother Nature and the flames change direction. Hope that some day in the not so distant future we will look at the area affected by this natural disaster and see progress, recovery, and the love of strangers coming to the rescue of their fellow man.
