The results from last weekend’s Live Earth concert for climate change are in and….people would rather watch soccer. Though internet streams broke a record 10 million hits, when it comes to television NBC’s Saturday night coverage only attracted 2.75 mil viewers where as the Argentina vs. Peru soccer game over on Univision got seen by over 2.9 million.
Does this mean the event wasn’t a success and that nobody cares about Global Warming? Of course not, but it does say that these concerts don’t draw the same numbers like they used too and it reinforces the power of the internet. 10 million streams online is not only a new record, but a testament to the fact that the way we receive information is changing. Television is no longer king and those concerned about “green” issues will have to be reached where they spend the majority of their time…on the web.
