Raise your hand if you know what this is.
You in the back: What is this?
“It’s a chigger.”
You are correct. Come up front and get your reward!
Seriously, this is a chigger, and if you’ve never seen what a chigger actually looks like, that’s not surprising, because chiggers are too small to see. However, if you’ve ever walked through tall grass and suffered the consequences, you know what chigger aftermath feels like!
Chiggers live in thick tall grass or weeds. My father used to tell us that if there were a lot of Queen Anne’s Lace, there were probably chiggers. What does Queen Anne’s Lace look like?
Raise your hand if you know. You in the back again: What does Queen Anne’s Lace look like?
“It looks like THIS, Teacher.”
Right you are. Come up front and get another prize.
Chigger bites are terrible. They’re itchy and make you break out in a hideous miserable rash. Chiggers like to gang up on you, and bite you over and over again wherever your clothing is loose. At the end of a long day outdoors, you can end up looking like the target of a paint ball attack.
Sure, you can spray insect repellent on yourself, but it wears off after a couple of hours. You can wear long pants and long socks and lace-up shoes and long sleeves and a hat at all times, but that’s no fun.
Or, you can stay outdoors all you want - don’t forget the sunscreen! - and just tie a piece of a Repell-em bag around your ankle and wrist. Yup, that’s all it takes. Not only will the chiggers leave you alone, so will the mosquitoes, tics, flies, and any rabid wolves* that might be in the vicinity.
You don’t have to worry about getting “poison” in your eyes or any other sensitive body parts, either. Repell-em products are 100% harmless, and made of all-natural ingredients.
And hey, if you’re making a kite for the Chinese New Year today, use a red Repell-em bag for the tail! It’ll look great, and you won’t have to worry about any bugs or stray dogs bothering you!
*I might have exaggerated about a rabid wolf. A normal wolf, however, won’t come near a Repell-em bag.
P.S. Don’t forget about the Repell-em Contest! You can enter up through February 15th! ![]()
