In case you haven’t caught on yet to what I consider to be the best characteristic of Repellem products, the all-natural repellent each bag and tablecloth coated with is amazing. Not only is it made from apple pumice, citronella, lemon seed oil, but it smells great and more importantly it does it’s job. It makes pests disappear. Specifically today though I want to talk to those nature lovers out there who are taking advantage of the recent cool temps to get in some hiking before it turns cold out.
Now Repellem products will protect you from a lot of things, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be cautious when camping outdoors. Nothing scares me more about the outdoors than the idea of catching a snake off guard. Well I say nothing…I’ve never come across a wild bear or alligator so just from my own personal hiking experiences, being surprised by a snake is never something I want to have happen again. Like most things the key to avoiding danger is to be prepared.
- Make sure you carry a snakebite kit along with the usually first aid kit
- Never venture into dark places. This includes sticking your hands into holes or empty spaces in between rocks (I know this sound like a duh, but people really do this)
- Check that sleeping bag before tucking in for the night.
- If your tent has a flap, zip it. It’s not just for show.
- Snakes are afraid of noise. Forget those long walks through the woods enjoying peace and quiet, make sure Mother Nature knows where you are at.
- If bit clean the wound ASAP and head for the nearest hospital
Hopefully your outdoor adventures will stay snake free, but just in case remember to always be aware of your surroundings.
