In many areas, it’s time to get those winter clothes and coats out of the closet and onto our backs!

This is been the wettest, rainiest, stormiest spring in living memory, and with the moisture come the bugs.  Bugs love wet.  Bugs love humidity.Just mowing the grass, in the bright sunshine, the gnats, mosquitoes, ticks, chiggers, and you-name-it come out in droves, sensing fresh blood.  You can spray your body with expensive chemicals and the bugs will just gnaw around it.However, there’s a way to spend some outdoor time without risking dangerous smelly chemicals.  It’s easy. We’re painting this month - every room in the house except one.  Here in southern Indiana, we’ve been under a Heat Advisory almost every day, and lately the high-nineties temps have been accompanied by severe humidity alerts as well.

There is no air conditioning in the house we’re painting, so all the windows are open and fans are running.  The problem with opening windows, especially when there are no screens, is that the insects consider that an open invitation to enter.

It’s autumn, and that’s spider time!  Those creepy and sometimes dangerous little - or big! - spiders are invading our homes and setting up camp in our shoes!

Be careful, in fact, when you get out your cold-weather shoes, for brown recluse spiders love to live in the toes of our boots.  A bite from a brown recluse is nothing to take lightly, either; they can even be fatal!

How do we get rid of spiders without spraying harmful chemicals?  Easy!  Just cut a few Ecosmart Repellem trash bags or tablecloths up, and arrange the pieces in, among, and around your shoes in your closet. I just set my trash out on the deck - four bags of garbage, sitting out on the deck, way out in the country, right next to a rather large woods.
