By now you are probably aware of the NBC hit The Biggest Loser hosted by Alison Sweeney. The show airs every Tuesday night and tonight’s episode has been given the green touch as part of NBC’s Green Week promotion I spoke about a few weeks ago.

Beginning this week NBC hits “The Office”, “My Name Is Earl”, “30 Rock”, “Heroes”,” and “Deal or No Deal” will all incorporate green themes into their broadcasts. NBC Green Council Chairman Lauren Zalaznick was quoted in a press release “This commitment to a week of programming is an incredible opportunity for NBCU to use the collective power of its platforms – broadcast, cable, and film – and consumer expertise and reach to further the message of environmental awareness and change. For the first time ever, the massive resources of the entire NBC Universal family will stand together behind a single pro-social cause. This far-reaching initiative represents the first step in our commitment to help raise environmental awareness and effect change both internally and externally”

Well this week the remaining members of the red, blue, and black teams are going green while getting into shape. By participating in recycling projects and learning all about new ways to incorporate environmental habits into their daily lives, the teams learn that losing weight can be done in a way that helps the planet.

Forget trips to fancy gyms and the use of gazillion dollar exercise equipment, getting in shape is what the outdoors is all about. Whether you’re running, walking, raking the leaves,  pushing (not riding) the lawn mower, or taking your youngest on a wagon ride, the trick is to get outside and getting moving.

Each week the teams are given a challenge that not only teaches them about weight loss techniques but offers a big reward to the winner. Well this weeks winning team will be given a brand new Ford Escape Hybrid!!! Along the way we all just may learn that though it’s not easy going green, it sure is worth it.
