This has been a very special week for the folk’s over at Green Armada. In case you forgot The Green Armada is a nonprofit org. founded by brothers Vincent and Jeff Albanese along with cousin Mark Makismowicz in honor of their sister that passed away several years ago. The group’s soul purpose is to clean up waterways in and around Tampa Fl.
Well the guys received a very special honor this month by being featured in none other than People magazine as one of it’s Heroes Of 2007!!!! One of five heroes selected the award is given to those who stand up and make an impact on humanity in some form or fashion. According to Senior Editor Nancy Jeffrey “What we really liked is they took on a global problem in a very local way. I think all of us walk down our block or at our local shopping center and we lament the problem, but not many of us actually do something”
With a major expansion currently in the works Vincent told the mag “It’s really very exciting. It’s much bigger than us. The heroes thing is cool, but I think next year it’s going to be much bigger than our faces. You find someone in Des Moines, Iowa, who is looking to start keeping the river that runs through town clean. We’ll give them a way to organize that without having to spend any money”
So why all the excitement about the Green Armada? Well just check out the guys posing next to our very own (and hopefully yours as well) Repellem bags bulging full of trash. That’s right. Repellem bags are a proud sponsor of the Green Armada!! Keep up the good work guys. You truly are real American Heroes.
