When I last left you my faithful followers, we had covered 5 of 11 tips on being part of a happier, greener couple. By switching over to compact fluorescent bulbs, bringing your own mugs to the coffee shop, saving water, turning off the computer (just not right now), and ending that mass of junk mail we all receive everyday as a couple we have the ability to save the planet twice as fast. Let’s take a look at the second half of the list…
6. Say bye to plastic bags- We’ve covered this a thousand times, but honestly one sure way to reduce your carbon footprint is to take your own bags to the grocery store with you. I understand it’s a tad bit inconvenient, but trust me it’s worth it to have a greener planet. As MSN puts it "The amount of oil it would take to make just 14 plastic bags would run your car for one mile."
7. Go Hybrid- Hybrid cars are more than just a Hollywood trend. If you drive a long distance back and forth to work everyday, it’s just good sense.
8.Recycled Toilet Paper- Go ahead and laugh, but we all know how long women like to spend in the bathroom. Almost half of what they do involves toilet paper and almost none of it is made from recycled paper.
9. Energy Efficient Appliances- Refrigerators, washers, dryer, hot water heaters, you name the appliance and chances are the newer models on today’s market are energy efficient to some extent. With new washers using 15% less energy, they pay for themselves in no time
10. Grow A Forest- Make a day of it. Grab some seeds, maybe a sapling of two, take a nice drive out to the country or maybe just do it in your backyard. Where ever you decide is the best spot, spend all day planting trees. Just one tree can "save the environment from 5,000 pounds of hot carbon dioxide each year."
11. Volunteer- As a couple you and your significant other are a force to be reckoned with. You’re a team. An army of two. What can be done by one, can be done faster and better with two. Find those in your area that are striving to make the planet a better place and chip in where they need you the most.
