Ahhh Wal-Mart, the mega-retail giant always seems to worm it’s way into my line of sight at least one a month. Whether they are making new strides the reforesting of mango trees that are being cut down by Thai farmers or insinuating that someday soon they may not buy from those companies that aren’t green enough, it’s safe to say the retailer is on a major green kick. And now we have their latest entry the “Neither” bag (that’s my word, not theirs). For those who love to shop but hate to clog the environment with plastic bags and paper sacks, at a $1 apiece this just may be the alternative you’ve been waiting for.
Made from 85% recycled materials the bags will eventually land in Wal-Mart stores all across the country. Starting in the very enviro-conscious west coast stores. I for one think this is one of the coolest steps any retailer has taken in a while to please their customers and help the planet. I was just talking about getting something for this purpose the other day, but couldn’t bare spending $5 a piece and with my family only buying groceries once a month the bags would end up costing me $100 just to for something that would hold the food. This completely changes everything. Now if only I could find a way to get them to do away those carousel bag holders at the end of the register. It never fails the cashier insists on wasting an entire bag for a candy bar and by the time I make it home ready for my treat…there’s no treat to be found. Honestly I think it’s an ingenious way to save money on their part by secretly stealing back items “left behind”.
Regardless of my shopping habits though next time your Wal-Mart asks you “Paper or Plastic?” simply say “Neither”!!
