All about the Repell-em garbage bags and tablecloths

Last Friday I brought the story of the mother and baby whales that had taken a wrong turn and wound up some 90 miles along the Sacramento River. Since then scientists have been trying a variety of ideas such as playing the sounds of other whales feeding, banging on steal poles, and the use of large ships that they hoped would turn the whales (the mother is wounded by an apparent run in with a boat propeller) the other direction. Well it looks like though there is still a long way to go, the whales have been spotted heading back in that direction. At this point it’s not exactly clear if the whales are aware that they even know they have left the pacific, but divers have been authorized to insert tracking darts into both the mother and baby in order to keep a better idea as to where they are located. One concern at this point is that the whales could possibly get stuck on several shallow water mud banks that line the different areas of the river near the San Francisco Bridge.
