I couldn’t believe this story about the recent study conducted by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE, thank goodness for acronyms). It basically says that they somehow figured out that if the state of Florida would create/expand it’s energy efficiency programs and put more into renewable energy sources not only would it save $28 million a year, but create over 14,000 jobs by 2023!!! Florida’s population is growing so fast that standard methods of energy production can no longer keep up with what’s being required during peak times of the day.
Now I’ve got a few relatives that live in the sunshine state and if you don’t think $28 million could come in handy you should see the states homeless problem. For that matter imagine all the things that could be done with the extra funds. Better schools, less taxes, more money spent on the Everglades, helping with the poor, better roads, more educational programs, better health care….name one major program that wouldn’t benefit. The article even suggests that it would be the equivalent of 100 new plants setting up shop in the state.
Florida why are you not doing this? Why have we not heard your response to this study?!? If you live in the state, let me know your thoughts and I’ll be sure to post them on the front page the very next day.
