We all have them. We all want them. We all get rid of them after a couple of years in order to make way for the latest and greatest. I’m talking cell phones. Your wife has one. You’ve got one. The kids are carrying around a couple. Grandma got one last Christmas. My toddler even throws a fit when somebody takes his away. Let’s face it, we live in a wireless world. The days of tripping over and getting tangled up in 25 foot phone cords are over. No more trying to sort out that tangled up knot of curly wire protruding out the bottom of the receiver like a lifeline extending all the way back to 1975.
I was shocked to read this story by Missy about how there are over 130 million cell phones trashed each year. 130 million!!! With more being junked every year?!?! I knew everyone had one, but never thought of their impact on the environment. Oh what must all this useless hardware be doing to our planet?
Thankfully along comes WirelessRecycling.com to help us take matters in our own hands and put these bad phones to good use. The way it works is simple. All you need to do is go around and gather up all the unwanted cell phones you can find whether it be through a group such as your local church or school, your employer, maybe get together with neighbors in and around your community. Once you have collected the phones Wireless Recycling will donate as much as $10 a phone towards the nonprofit charity of your choice!!!
Just think about all the old phones you have laying around or have tossed in the past. With Apple selling over $300 million worth of iPhones last week some experts are estimating that close to 500,000 replaced their old phones during the July 4th holiday week. That’s 500,000 that may end up at your local landfill. With numbers like that the easiest call to make is to start a recycling program near you.
