I used to travel a ton and I mean a TON!! Every weekend for a year spent in a nasty, germ filled hotel room with who knows what floating in the air or crawling around at night have forever made me a cleaner person around the home. Recently there has a lot of talk around the web about “green hotels” and I even read story about how Al Gore’s daughter is getting married at the Beverly Hills Hotel aka the most elite environmentally friend pad in the country.
I got to thinking about those cheap dives I used to stay in and wondered what exactly goes into the making of a “green hotel”. Low behold USA Today came out with a list of just what it takes to turn you over night stay into one that doesn’t pollute the planet.
- The walls would have to be covered with low emission paints and some type of recycled carpeting
- Definitely gotta go with energy efficient tv’s, coffee pots, electronics, etc…
- A recycle bin in the corner would make a great addition
- Sleep comfortably under bamboo sheets
- Forget about those flimsy Styrofoam cups and go with real glass
- NO SMOKING!!
- Low-flow toilets and showers
- Organic Cotton towels
- All lights must contain compact fluorescent bulbs
- An infrared system that cuts the power when the room is not being used
Sounds like some great idea’s, but is this something will ever witness anytime soon? I say yes but it will be a long road traveled before we can get there.
